When one zone stops, start here.
An irrigation professional can work through the controller output, connections, and valve operation. Electrical testing and valve repairs should be handled by a qualified professional.
Common reasons to ask for help
- A zone that will not start
- Sprinklers that keep running
- Intermittent watering cycles
Understand the scope before approving work
One failed valve does not necessarily call for a full system replacement. Ask for the diagnosed fault, compatible replacement parts, and a test of the affected zone after work is complete.
What to include in your inquiry
Is one zone affected or the whole system? Do you see an error on the controller? Has any landscape work taken place near the valve boxes?
Read the repair cost guide for questions to ask when comparing quotes.
A controller symptom can have several causes
A zone that will not start can involve its settings, wiring, connections or valve. A zone that keeps running presents a different problem. We assess the control path and accessible components before recommending a controller or valve replacement. Provide the controller model if it is visible without opening electrical covers, plus the affected zone numbers if known.
Repair the fault without replacing every component
A damaged connection, failed valve component and defective controller are separate findings. Ask us to identify the evidence for each proposed replacement. When several zones are affected, a shared fault may need investigation. A complete controller upgrade is a separate decision from restoring a single zone, and should be explained as such in the proposal.
Account for buried valves and parts availability
Unknown valve-box locations, difficult access and obsolete components can extend diagnosis. The final repair plan should name the equipment being serviced and any compatible replacement. If a return visit is needed, confirm its charge and what condition the system will be left in until completion. Do not handle wet electrical connections or attempt live testing.
Finish with a zone-operation check
After the approved work, we check the affected switching and explain any programming changes. Discuss whether the broader watering schedule needs attention once the original fault is resolved. Read about controller replacement when the equipment itself needs updating, or compare irrigation service cost factors.
Before you approve the work
- Specify diagnosis, replacement parts and labor separately.
- Record which zones were tested and any remaining faults.
- Keep optional smart-controller upgrades separate from necessary repairs.
